I know this is quite after the fact, but, well, Facebook is a weird, weird place filled with bizarre and arbitrary conventions. For example, on people’s birthdays, most of their friends write “happy birthday, etc” on their walls. There are countless others, too, the knowledge of which I’ve accrued in my almost 3 years of using this. I think it benefits college students most. It forms a community where events can be posted and people invited to them, among countless other uses. It’s also useful to find kids in your classes. I remember the good old days when only college students were allowed to use Facebook.

I think that people mostly use it for stalking (what other purpose could the news feed serve?) or keeping in touch, though. It maintains slender bonds of “friendship.”
