I feel the wind at my ears
the soft breathing of whales
the melt pain of polar bears
clawing at my back
like kittens

for once the waves
have had their way with my breath
and the night
explodes big and salted
over songs
I hear
a woman
sings her laughter
like the wrinkles
in old window screen

bangs pans and calls
children in among the odor
of bake and broil

cats growl, a dog barks
even this far we are not so far, you and I
