I wish that stones
never had been
to leap from
sun never had been
to melt my shoe bottoms
water never had taken
my small
paper boat
over the rapids
to the sea
and to a shore I now
stand on, I see, watching
ancient words
entering her hand
like often interrupted light
as she dips it into the water
and smiles
like the full moon
we knew and stole
